MUDJACKING VS FOAMJACKING

MINNEAPOLIS – ST PAUL MN CEMENT RAISING SERVICES

Foamjacking or polyjacking is the next new attempt to try and fix something that isn’t broken, which is the tried and true, proven method of fixing sunken concrete, which has been used for over 80 years – Mudjacking.

HOW THEY ARE THE SAME:
Both processes raise concrete.
Both drill small holes to inject the product.
Both do not leave a mess, or harm surrounding areas.
Both allow the concrete to be used immediately after the project is completed.

HOW THEY ARE DIFFERENT:
COST:
The proven crushed rock slurry we use is less expensive than the foam, making mudjacking a lot more cost effective, saving you money!

CONTROL OF PROCESS:
In the mudjacking process, as the slurry is pumped in, the concrete raises to the exact preferred level, as controlled by our switch. When we stop pumping, the concrete stays at that level, for a perfect end result every time.
Using the foamjacking process, the foam is injected in, and then expands to raise the concrete. It is very hard to control the expansion, as one would know if you have ever used spray foam in a can, making it real difficult to level accurately. Being a new process, most companies have little experience doing it, so if they use too much, you are stuck with slabs that are too high, and if they use too little, you are left with voids and unstable slabs.

EFFECTS ON ENVIRONMENT:
Mudjacking uses a crushed calcium rock and water slurry, that is the same as putting compacted ground back under your concrete where the ground was before. If the slabs ever need replacing, the hardened slurry can be left in as a base, and new concrete poured over the top.
Foamjacking uses foam, which in a world that is trying to protect and renew the environment, the last thing we should be doing is putting large amounts of foam under our concrete. Not to mention, if your concrete ever needs to be replaced, that foam has to come out, and be disposed of in a landfill at your cost and the environments cost.

EFFECTIVENESS OF PROCESS:
Mudjacking uses a dense slurry that is pumped in under extreme pressure, which compacts the soil underneath as it’s pushing up on the slabs, stabilizing the soils to prevent future settling. The slurry hardens underneath into a solid base that does not shrink or settle, even if exposed to moisture.
Foamjacking uses a lightweight foam that only expands, and as a result does not compact the soil underneath, which can cause the slabs to settle again. If exposed to moisture the foam can break down and absorb moisture, which can also cause settling or heaving in the winter.
It is common sense that it takes weight to compact unstable ground, that is why you see big roller compactors, compacting soils before pouring is done. Proving that a dense heavy material that goes in under pressure will definitely compact soils under it, and provide a more stable and permanent base for heavy traffic, than a lightweight foam.

PROVEN PROCESS:
Mudjacking is a cost effective, time tested, proven process that has been used for over 80 years to fix all hollow and sunken concrete needs.
Foamjacking is a new process that has not been proven as to how long it lasts before it breaks down, absorbs moisture, or even how it holds up to heavy traffic or traffic at all being a lightweight foam.
Why be a test rat for just another more expensive unproven process to raise concrete, like the last new process called sandjacking, that came and fell by the wayside.
